frequently asked questions

  • why "oak grove" photography?

It comes from my last name! Dobrava, traditionally spelt “Doubrava,” is a Czech last name translating to “oak grove,” hence Oak Grove Photography!

  • why do you require a deposit?

Your deposit holds your appointment in my schedule! It takes a lot of time and energy to not only photograph, but also comb through and edit all of your images. I am also a full-time college student for one more semester, and I have a part-time job as a hospital newborn photographer. This deposit is to make sure that I am still paid for my time if there are any last-minute cancellations, as I have very little free time.

  • are deposits refundable?

95% of the time, no. However, deposits are transferrable, so if you need to reschedule your appointment for whatever reason, you can do so without having to put down a second deposit! We only offer full refunds in special circumstances at the discretion of the photographer.

  • how much experience do you have?

I first picked up a camera in 2015 when I was randomly thrown into a film photography class my sophomore year of high school. I have been actively photographing and working since then, focusing mainly on portraiture. This experience includes solo portraits and headshots, family sessions, second-shooting a couple of weddings, and in-hospital newborn photography! I tend to have a camera with me wherever I go, so I’m constantly photographing!

  • what should i bring to my session?

All I need are your beautiful, smiling faces! But if you’re trying to be more practical, I recommend small snacks for the young ones and waters/drinks for everybody! You never know what kind of weather you’re going to experience in Ohio, so it’s good to stay hydrated! I also recommend bringing any props or outfit changes you may want, as I do not have a supply that I keep on me for my sessions.

  • what do i wear?

I recommend neutral tones, staying away from bright colors or neons unless that’s your jam and you just HAVE to wear that neon jumpsuit (which I totally get)! Stay away from logos, heavy patterns or words on your clothing, as it distracts from your beautiful faces! I also recommend comfortable shoes, because I photograph mostly outdoors and we may have to walk around a bit to change the scenery. Last but not least, wear only as much makeup as you’re comfortable with. You don’t have to have a full face unless, again, that’s just who you are!

  • if you have a question that is not listed above, email me and i will get back to you as soon as possible!
